On May 19, the issuance of the Joint Statement between China and the United States on Economic and Trade Negotiations (hereinafter referred to as the Statement) between the United States and China involved three aspects.
First, it mentioned reducing the trade deficit but did not propose specific figures. The statement pointed out that the two sides agreed to take effective measures to substantially reduce the US trade deficit with China’s goods.
Second, emphasize the strengthening of cooperation. The statement pointed out that both sides agreed to meaningfully increase the export of US agricultural products and energy.
Finally, mentioning the reduction of disagreements is mainly reflected in the improvement of the business environment and intellectual property rights. This is mainly reflected in the favorable conditions for both parties to expand trade in manufacturing products and services and the most controversial intellectual property protection.
It is fair to say that if trade negotiations can promote reforms that cannot be promoted within China, it is not a very bad outcome for China. Facing the great challenge is the common situation between China and the United States. If we can actively respond to it and make every effort to reform it, it will actually be a blessing for both peoples.
